Otokomi Lake

Favorite secluded hike at Glacier NP
Tough hikers - These photos are for Don and Roger. Their friendship and love of the outdoors is still going strong after many years. Going up, I met them at the second bridge. Hiking alone can become boring, so it is nice to meet friendly hikers. We talked for a few minutes, estimated how many miles farther to lake, and then I moved on ahead of them. They were so close to the lake before they turned back. Since Montana has a grizzly population and I was hiking solo, I asked them to make sure I made it back to the campgrounds. Back at the campground, I told them about my website and that I would put photos of Otokomi Lake on the web for them.

If you see shale beds and flowers, you're close to the lake

For a ridiculously large photo (high quality), click on the picture.

Waterfall seen one-third up on the trail
Hardy flowers hang on with shallow roots (2 in) in a shale rock bed.
  Three differnt species
Notice the green ledge with a small waterfall trickling over it.
Otokomi Lake - The reward for 5 miles
Again, the ledge with the waterfall can be seen. You can't see the lake until you are really close.
  Hill hiding Otokomi Lake
I was alone at the top. To hide from mosquitoes, I went swimming in the frigid Otokomi Lake.
Sefl portrait - camera held by a small pine tree
You know you're close ( 1/2 mi) when the trail is out of the trees, and onto a shale bed.
  View looking back
They almost made it and I admire them for being hardcore hikers. At the Rising Sun campgrounds, I invited them over for s'mores.
Roger and Don - met them on the trail
